Communal Complex

Woodbury University | Instructor: Patrick Geske

The project encompasses the development of a comprehensive program for an architectural project. This program entails various elements, such as assessing the needs of the client and users, conducting a space inventory and determining their requirements, analyzing site conditions, reviewing applicable building codes and standards, and incorporating sustainability criteria.

The studio focuses on exploring the transition from individual human habitation to dense communal living, encompassing the shift from internal to external spaces, the progression from collection to aggregation, and the transformation from nesting to hatching. The specific site chosen for this project is a parking lot located in Highland Park, CA, which will be revitalized to accommodate a multi-unit housing complex. The housing complex offers a diverse range of unit types, including communal living spaces, studios, and family-sized units, providing options to cater to different residential needs and preferences.
